The world’s loneliest duck has died after being attacked by dogs on a remote Pacific island he called home.

Trevor was the only mallard on Niue after he arrived in 2018.

He spent his short life living in a roadside puddle, where he was fed by locals.

It is thought the duck could have come from New Zealand, and was named Trevor after one of the country’s politicians, Trevor Mallard.

Rae Findlay, Niue’s Chamber of Commerce chief, paid his respects. “After a year driving around with a bag of oats in my car I will miss the stops on the way to and from work to feed Trevor.

"He captured many hearts and he will definitely be missed,” said Mr Findlay, who ran Trevor’s Facebook page.
