World's largest chocolate factory shut down after salmonella found

Salmonella food poisoning bacteria have been found at the largest chocolate factory in the world - which makes confectionary for Mondelez, Nestle, Unilever and Hershey. Production has been halted at the Barry Callebaut factory in Belgium.

The factory makes chocolate in wholesale batches for 73 different clients, who then sell it on under different brands and names.

Spokesman Korneel Warlop said: "All products manufactured since the test have been blocked. Chocolate production in Wieze remains suspended until further notice."

Customers who may had have contaminated chocolate are being contacted.
