World's first 'Neep' tonic water launched for Burns Night by Scots company

An Aberdeenshire company has launched the world's first 'Neep' flavoured tonic water ahead of Burns Night on January 25.

Scottish tonic water start-up Walter Gregor's say the new drink has been created to complement Scottish potato vodka or potato spirit based gin, making the perfect "Neeps and Tatties" cocktail and an ideal liquid accompaniment to the haggis on the big night.

Claire Rennie, founder of small-batch Scottish tonic water made the new mixer using neeps (swedes) from her neighbour’s Aberdeenshire farm.

Claire explained that the desire to make it stemmed from the fact she loves haggis couldn’t find a suggested drink to pair with it that wasn’t whisky.

She said: "As neeps and tatties are the natural accompaniment for haggis, we started experimenting with Ogilvy Vodka, a potato vodka produced on another Scottish farm in Angus.

"With some neeps from our neighbour’s farm, we discovered that the infused tonic had a delicious clear, crisp citrus flavour with an aroma of neep."

Claire added that the team up with Ogilvy’s tattie vodka meant they were able to create the ‘Neeps & Tatties Cocktail’.

She said: "We use an all-natural production process to create a softer bubble in our tonics which allows the flavours to sing. I think it makes the perfect Burns Night aperitif, served with a haggis bon-bon.”

The limited edition Scottish Neep Tonic is available to buy now from the Walter Gregor’s website for delivery in the month of January only.

Made on site in Aberdeenshire it contains only natural ingredients including carbonated Scottish water, Scottish neep infusion, quinine and sugar from British grown sugar beet.
