A flame-throwing robot dog has hit the market in America for $9,420 (approximately £7,538). The aptly named Thermonator is the world's first ever flamethrower-wielding robot dog, according to Ohio-based creators Throwflame.
The hound can shoot flames up to 30 feet. Its versatile abilities mean the Thermonator can also help with snow and ice removal, it is said on the company website.
Moreover, the stick-like-legged robot is skilled with laser sighting abilities and obstacle avoidance.
The four-legged fiery metal creature depicting a dog can be controlled remotely by the owner using Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Moreover, the onboard battery lasts an hour.
However, the firm has cautioned against using the Thermonator dangerously, explaining it is not a weapon. Throwflame claims the device is useful for wildfire control and prevention, agricultural management, ecological conservation or even entertainment.
Additionally, the Thermonator can help with Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) mapping and FPV, or first-person view navigation.
Footage of the canine was recently posted on the company's website showing it against woodland and snow-filled backdrops blasting a stream of flames. However, it is not clear yet how fast the robot can move.
The use of flamethrowers is legal in 48 American states but is prohibited in the UK.
