World's first adjustable glasses for short and long distances go on sale for £58

The world’s first adjustable spectacle lenses could end the misery for millions who are constantly searching the house for the correct pair.

Innovative glasses that can be altered to cater for both long and short distances at the turn of a dial have been unveiled at a virtual trade show.

For two tiny dials placed just above each arm of the frame allow the wearer to fine-tune the lenses to suit the activity.

It means they can go seamlessly from reading a book or doing screen work to driving to the supermarket or playing sport without the need to switch specs.

Designed by US start-up Voy, the “tunable” one-size for all activities glasses can change the curve of the lenses to cover prescriptions from -5 to +2, putting an end to owning several pairs for different reasons.

On Monday they were showcased at the virtual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas.

Priced from £58 a pair for a basic frame to £73 for a snazzy tortoiseshell frame, they are also available as sunglasses.

Voy said the lenses were first developed to help older people whose eyes have deteriorated through wear and tear, leaving them needing different pairs for close up and distance work.

It said: “Voy glasses changed this. All you need to do is manually adjust the power of the Voy glasses to get the best view in any setting.

“Consumers now only need one pair of glasses.”

Voy won an innovations award in the wearable technology category for its specs at CES which launched on Monday and ends on Thursday (Jan 14).
