The world's biggest goldminer has named its first woman chief executive.
Denver-based Newmont, which has had a secondary ASX listing since its acquisition of Melbourne-based Newcrest in 2023, announced on Tuesday that Natascha Viljoen would replace Tom Palmer, when he retires at the end of the year.
Ms Viljoen joined Newmont in October 2023 as executive vice president and chief operating officer, and was made president of the company in May.
The 55-year-old has worked in the mining industry for more than 30 years and was previously CEO of Anglo American's platinum business.
Ms Viljoen, a native of South Africa, said she was honoured to join the more than 100-year-old company as its 11th CEO.
"We will combine operational excellence, cost discipline and judicious capital allocation to ensure strong financial performance, systematically unlocking more value for shareholders and stakeholders alike," Ms Viljoen said.
She'll take over on January 1 and be paid a base salary of $US1.2 million ($A1.8 million), with the opportunity to make as much as $US8.8 million ($A13.4 million) more in short- and long-term bonuses.
