World of Warcraft: Shadowlands enters beta — here's how to sign up

World of Warcraft's next big expansion, Shadowlands, has an official release date and a closed beta test.

Announced during a live stream by Blizzard, players will be able to jump into the Shadowlands beta as early as next week.

As ever, this will be the perfect chance for players to get a taste of what's to come in the anticipated update.

The expansion will be adding new dungeons, locations, equipment and so on, some of which you'll be able to experience during the beta.

Progress made during the beta-testing phase, however, will not be saved which means you'll have to start all over again when the expansion fully releases this autumn.

How to sign up for World of Warcraft: Shadowlands beta

Invite for the beta will be going out next week and If you want the chance to get one, you'll need to go into your account management on Blizzard's Battle.net website.

Once there, you have to toggle on and accept the option to receive beta invites.

If you're lucky enough to get a beta key, you will then have to download a special client from the Battle net launcher.

Enter in your special beta key and you'll be able to play the Shadowlands beta while the testing period is live.

The beta will also be pretty generous, too, allowing players to level all the way up to the new level cap being introduced.

Blizzard's live stream shed some light on some of the bigger changes coming to the wildly popular MMO when Shadowlands officially comes out.

One of these changes is that the end-game dungeon Torghast has been designed as a 'roguelike', which means that it is somewhat procedurally generated.

This means that the dungeon will be different in some way every time you and your party venture into it, but the best part is that the dungeon will not be restricted to a certain number of plays each week.

World of Warcraft has a history of gating its challenging and fun instances behind locks which previously only allowed you to take part in once a week.
