What better way to kill time before World of Warcraft: Midnight launches than buying an expensive mount? With the expansion going into beta, Blizzard has decided to bring back the $90 dinosaur players became enamored with last year.
The Trader's Gilded Brutosaur, a delightfully cute mini-brachiosaurus with a gold saddle and helmet, is back on the in-game store. There's a non-zero chance you've noticed the side effects of this already, as subscribers in Britain and Europe have noticed WoW Tokens being sold out for a time.
The Brutosaur became extremely trendy in October 2024. Besides just being an adorable creature to sit on, the prehistoric animal comes with a mailbox and an auction house built in, letting you access either wherever in the map you are. That's a high level of convenience in an MMO like WoW, and players were eager to pay for it then and now, even if it meant putting down almost $100.
That said, Blizzard’s naked capitalism has its detractors. “Costs more than the expansion. Company is trash,” says one reply on Twitter. "Literally why gamers can't have nice things. Everyone of you should be ashamed of yourselves for encouraging this nonsense," reads another.
"Not even slightly tempted. It's $132CAD. That's over twice the price of the base expansion for Midnight. Is it convenient? Yes. Do I need it? No," says a commenter on Reddit. There’s something to be said for the comparison, since the Midnight base game is going for $49.99, just over half of what a Brutosaur costs. If you'd like one, you have until January 5, 2026, then it goes back into the vault.
