World Oceans Day takes place on 8 June and is an annual day of celebration and action with this year’s theme on plastic pollution in the ocean.

After Alyssa Isakower sent in her suggestion, and with events taking place across the world from Portugal to India we’d like to hear how you’re celebrating. Whether you’re taking part in the photo contest co-organised by the United Nations, coding to help fishers or attending one of the many summits share your photos, videos and stories with us.

You can share with us by clicking on the blue ‘Contribute’ buttons. Or if you’re out and about you can download the GuardianWitness app or look for our assignments in the new Guardian app.

If you’d like to contribute an idea of your own, you can do so in Send us your assignment ideas.

  • GuardianWitness is the home of readers’ content on the Guardian. Contribute your video, pictures and stories, and browse news, reviews and creations submitted by others. Posts will be reviewed prior to publication on GuardianWitness, and the best pieces will feature on the Guardian site.
