World number one Ashleigh Barty breezes into Wimbledon third round with victory over Alison van Uytvanck

World number one Ashleigh Barty made a real statement of intent at Wimbledon with a second-round demolition of Alison Van Uytvanck.

Barty, chasing back-to-back grand slams following her French Open success last month, beat the Belgian 6-1 6-3.

The Australian needed only 54 minutes to get the job done and will play the winner of Harriet Dart and Beatriz Haddad Maia.

The 23-year-old is yet to drop a set on the grass court and looks in good shape to beat her best-ever singles result at Wimbledon, when she reached the third round here last year.

Elsehwere, ninth seed Sloane Stephens also made light work of her second round tie, thrashing Yafan Wang of China in just 54 minutes.

The American celebrated Independence Day with a 6-0, 6-2 hammering of Wang, ranked 57th in the world.

The two-time Grand Slam winner awaits the winner of Johanna Konta's match with Katerina Siniakova in round three.
