World media react as Rangers send Ibrox 'into orbit' and Europa League epic draws breathless verdicts

As the Ibrox dust begins to settle, the post-match verdicts are just as breathless as the football.

Rangers are Europa League semi-finalists, a raucous night at Ibrox delivering them a first continental last four tie since 2008.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side overturned 1-0 first leg deficit to dump Braga and leaves themselves potentially just 180 minutes from Seville and the dream of a major European final.

They will face RB Leipzig for the right to do so after beating the Portuguese out 3-1 after extra time thanks to a James Tavernier double and a decisive strike from Kemar Roofe after David Carmo had dramatically levelled the tie on aggregate late on.

Having already bested Borussia Dortmund and Red Star Belgrade on this incredible run, Rangers are no strangers to a big write-up from the world's media and all eyes were on Ibrox again.

Here's a selection of the best reaction from around the world.

The Guardian (London)

"Rangers have reached their first European semi-final since 2008! They made excruciatingly hard work of it against a Braga side who finished with nine men, but their victory was fully deserved. James Tavernier scored twice in the first half, only for David Carmo’s late header to take a one-sided game to extra-time.

"Rangers were rattled by that bizarre plot twist but composed themselves in time for Kemar Roofe – who had two goals disallowed earlier in the game – to put them into the semi-finals. They will face RB Leipzig, with either Eintracht Frankfurt or West Ham waiting in the final."

A Bola (Portugal)

"Two goals from Tavernier, captain of Rangers, allowed the Scots to turn the disadvantage of the first leg (SC Braga won, 1-0, in Pedreira), with David Carmo, at 83', being a giant among the central defenders and leading the game to overtime. Then, with nine, it was an impossible mission for SC Braga.

"In the complementary stage Carvalhal presented a 4x3x1, took out André Horta and launched Moura to reinforce the defense. But the Scots continued with a very strong offensive, causing many chills to the people of Braga.

Kemar Roofe continues his celebrations after putting Rangers 3-1 in front. (Reuters)

"In extra time, Rangers, strongly supported by their audience, always on top, reached the goal, by Roofe, who, in the front zone, just had to put his foot down, after Aribo's pass. And four minutes later Iuri Medeiros saw two yellow cards, one for a foul on Balogun and another for protests, leaving SC Braga reduced to nine...

"Rangers go on to the semi-finals, where they will face RB Leipzig from Portugal's André Silva, while SC Braga bids farewell to Europe with their heads held high."

AS (Spain)

"Rangers have qualified for the Europa League semi-finals after beating Braga in extra time. The Portuguese, who saw two expulsions , were subdued from start to finish and only managed to score from set pieces.

"Crazy game started. Tavernier scored as soon as he started and Roofe saw how the VAR annulled his second goal. The captain of the Scottish team turned the tie around from the penalty spot in an action in which Tormena was sent off .

"In the second half he slowed down. Rangers was practically classified and ended up paying for it. Coming out of a corner, Carmo leveled the tie.

"The machada was still far away, as there were still 30 minutes of extra time with one less player. The task became even more complicated after Roofe's goal and Medeiros' expulsion for protesting .

"Rangers forgave in the second part of extra time, but Braga did not present arguments to question the classification of Van Bronckhorst's men either. Next stop in the semifinals: Leipzig."

Sport (Spain)

"Only with the punch of their fans, Giovanni van Bronckhorst 's men levitated out of the locker room and took just over a minute to get ahead. A cross from Borna Barisic, the left back, tried to puncture Joe Aribo in the heart of the area, but the ball went away, with such good luck that it fell to Tavernier at the far post. The captain threw himself to the ground and almost without an angle made it 1-0.

"Ibrox exploded and Rangers experienced some hammering moments in which they made it 2-0, this time with a header from Roofe inside the box. However, the VAR reviewed the play and annulled it for a handball at the beginning of Barisic's play, very similar to the one that Chelsea's Marcos Alonso was called against Real Madrid.

"Rangers, infinitely superior to their rival , flirted with the goal on countless occasions, but it was not until a ball behind the defense, in the twilight of the first half, when the blow came for Carlos Carvalhal's men. Storm, on the run, knocked Roofe down. The referee saw it, whistled a penalty and expelled the center-back. Tavernier took responsibility and with a shot to the center made it 2-0.

"Rangers had to close the junction earlier and had a shot at the crossbar and two other goals disallowed, one against Roofe for offside and the other against Aaron Ramsey for a foul on the goalkeeper. They forgave and paid for it. In a set piece, David Carmo headed the 2-1 and sent the game to extra time .

"Tension and fear grew in Glasgow, until Roofe, in the 101st minute, freely scored a low cross from Aribo , to the delight of the locals. If the 3-1 was not enough, Iuri Medeiros, who had entered in the second half, was sent off with a double yellow in one minute, after a mistimed entry and a meaningless protest to the referee."

Fanatik (Turkey)

"Rangers-Braga match in the UEFA Europa League was breathtaking. He closed the first half ahead 2-0 with goals from James Tavernier in front of the Scots fans who lost the first match 1-0.

"Moreover, in 42, the Portuguese team has 10 people left! Braga did the hard thing, at 83 David Carmo smashed the net and took the game into overtime with a score of 2-1. In 101, Kemar Roofe took the stage and brought Rangers the semi-final ticket, while Braga finished the game with 9 players!"

Kicker (Germany)

"For a long time it looked like a safe Rangers win against Sporting Braga, but then the Portuguese caught up late. Roofe only made everything clear in stoppage time. Leipzig is waiting for the Scots in the semifinals.

"The home side started furiously at Ibrox Stadium and made it 1-0 after two minutes: Barisic's cross extended Aribo to the back post, where Tavernier finished. The supposed 2-0 came a little later, but Barisic had his arm on the ball in front of Roofe's cross (5').

"The Scots didn't let the mood spoil them and kept going. Again and again, dangerous crosses sailed into the guests' penalty area, but the hosts kept failing at the goalkeeper, the crossbar (32nd) or themselves.

"A clear, dominant affair for the hosts, who should have led higher. Shortly before the break, Tavernier made it 2-0 from the spot (42') - Tormena was the last man to stop Roofe and also saw the red card.

"Despite clear dominance, the many missed chances took revenge and Braga came back into the game out of nowhere: After a corner, Carmo nodded freely in the middle to make it 1-2 (83 ') and pushed his team into overtime.

"Here, too, the Rangers held the reins against ten guests and scored again: Roofe only had to put his foot down after a sharp cross from Aribo - this time the striker's goal counted (101')."

Tutto Mercato Web (Italy)

The Italian outlet rated Rangers man-by-man, here's a selection of the highlights below.

Tavernier 7.5 - Devastating impact for the Rangers winger. He starts from right back but in fact he is an added winger and goes on all of Barisic's deep crosses. He scores a goal at the start in a split, repeats himself with a penalty for a brace that brings him to sixteen centres this season.

Lundstram 7 - Gigantic performance in terms of the portion of the field covered by the home midfielder, who even in extra time is precious as an interdict in front of the defence.

Aribo 7.5 - Two assists on the scoresheet, he ran at breakneck speed up to over 90 'and a feeling of omnipotence in protecting the ball. He is the pawn that blows up the Braga bank in the first fraction, he is the finisher for Roofe's goal in the first half of extra time.

Kent 7.5 - Like Aribo, he is often impregnable for the defence of Braga. He breaks when he wants the opponents doubles and is irrepressible both when he returns on the right and when he goes to the bottom.

Roofe 6.5 - He fights like a lion until the end of the first extra period, determination rewarded with the decisive goal after a series of precision errors and two goals disallowed.

De Standaard (Netherlands)

"Beaten 1-0 in the first leg, Rangers defeated Braga 3-1 after extra time. Captain James Tavernier (2nd and 44th from the penalty spot) had his people in orbit before David Carmo (83rd) sent the two teams into extra time.

"Kemar Roofe (101st) liberated the Ibrox Stadium. Braga ended the game with nine players after Vitor Tormena (42nd) and Luri Medeiros (105th) received red cards.

"Rangers challenges Leipzig for a place in the final."
