What’s new: More than 1,500 business, government and civil society leaders from more than 70 countries will participate in a virtual Davos Agenda 2021 event next week to discuss global challenges following the Covid-19 pandemic.
Chinese President Xi Jinping will join state leaders including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the Jan. 25–29 event.
The meeting will focus on creating impact, rebuilding trust and shaping the policies and partnerships needed in 2021.
“In the context of the Covid-19 pandemic, the need to reset priorities and the urgency to reform systems have been growing stronger around the world,” said Klaus Schwab, founder and executive chairman of the World Economic Forum.
What’s the context: The Davos Agenda is part of this this year’s World Economic Forum (WEF), which abandoned its traditional in-person format to adapt to the pandemic.
Also known as the Davos Forum, the WEF has held annual gatherings at the Swiss ski resort of Davos, serving as a platform for world leaders to discuss critical issues at the start of each year.
This year’s event consists a virtual round in January and a face-to-face meeting scheduled in May in Singapore, according to the organizer.
