World leaders in Glasgow for COP26 will dine at Kelvingrove Museum tonight

World leaders in Glasgow for the COP26 climate summit are to attend a reception hosted by Prime Minister Boris Johnson at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum this evening.

A ring of steel and security has been erected over the weekend in the vicinity of the museum in preparation for the COP26 world leaders dinner, with high fencing and security bollards are in place and large number of police officers patrolling the perimeter.

The museum been closed to the public since Wednesday October 27 and will remain closed until Monday November 15 in order "to support the delivery of COP26" according to Glasgow Life.

Part of Dumbarton Road and Argyle Street is also closed off to traffic today near to the museum as a result of the reception - a move which prompted Glasgow City Council to advise of the likelihood of severe congestion in the west end as the road currently one of the alternative routes that people have been using because of the Clydeside Expressway being shut.

While Kelvin Way is fully closed off to pedestrians and all traffic - including walkers, wheelers and cyclists - until tomorrow (November 2) and then again from Friday November 5 to Saturday November 6 as a result of events related to COP26.

US President Joe Biden will be among the heads of state heading for Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum after participating in a world leaders summit at the United Nations COP26 climate talks at the SEC.

The conference is seen as the moment when countries must deliver on pledges made in the accord agreed in Paris six years ago, to limit temperature rises to well below 2C above pre-industrial levels and pursue efforts to curb warming to 1.5C - beyond which the worst impacts will be felt.
