World leaders are sending the wrong Liz Truss congratulations after Prime Minister appointment

World leaders are tagging the wrong Liz Truss on Twitter when trying to send congratulations on her appointment as Prime Minister.

Liz Truss MP uses the twitter handle @trussliz, while @liztruss is held by a woman called Liz Trussel. She's been mis-tagged in tweets aimed at the new PM by everyone from BBC journalists to world leaders.

Trussel has taken the opportunity to respond to the tweets with cheeky one-liners, telling the Swedish PM to "get the meatballs ready" for her diplomatic visit. Green Party leader also Caroline Lucas mis-tagged her in a now deleted tweet, which Trussel replied to with "I love cake", a reference to partygate.

When Swedish prime minister Magdalena Andersson tweeted tagging Liz Trussell, saying: “Congratulations to Liz Truss, who will assume the role of Prime Minister of Great Britain. Sweden and Great Britain will continue our deep and extensive cooperation. It is important to our citizens, economies and security,” Ms Trussell replied back: "Looking forward to a visit soon! Get the meatballs ready."

When she was tagged in a Tweet breaking the news of her new Prime Ministership by BBC journalist Hayley Hassall, Liz Trussell replied: "Just getting ready to head up to Balmoral! Looking forward to meeting the Corgi’s".

Some are now calling for Trussel to head up to Balmoral Castle and attempt to be sworn in by the Queen as the new Prime Minister.

Trussel confirmed that she thought her the Queen would be "besties".

Ms Trussell has used her new Twitter fame to pledge free McDonald's breakfasts for the nation.
