World Food Day: John McGinn is refreshingly honest when asked for his favourite meal

It’s #WorldFoodDay, so naturally club social channels are jumping on the hashtag bandwagon with their content.

Footballers tend to be creatures of habit and reluctant to stand out from their peers when it comes to culinary preferences.

Aston Villa’s squad is no different.

It’s hard to dress up numerous, slightly different descriptions of chicken, rice and veg as a the picks of a collection of food connoisseurs. Between that and the pasta, there’s little variety.

Perhaps fair enough, These are well paid, elite-level athletes with a responsibility to look after themselves by following nutritious and balanced diets in order to maximise their performance. But it also being their first choice? Come on lads.

So god bless John McGinn for his honesty. The former Hibs favourite is proving just as popular at Villa Park since making the move from Easter Road, but clearly hasn’t let the massive increase in salary and Premier League status change him.

Now we’re not saying that growing up in Glasgow and playing in Paisley and Edinburgh makes McGinn predisposed to an unhealthy diet, but the man knows what he likes and isn’t afraid to let people know.

We just hope he saw the light and embraced the delight that is chippy sauce during his three years in the capital.
