Fans of The Beatles will be able to experience to Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band as it has never been heard before this Christmas.
Tech giant Apple has chosen Liverpool to launch its new immersive sound experience in a world-first event centred around the band.
Dubbed the "ultimate Beatles listening experience", the new event will see the ground-breaking album played through Dolby Atmos - a new generation of intelligent surround sound speakers - that will feel as if the band is performing live in the space.
A large number of speakers are placed all around the listeners creating a 3D soundscape, transporting them to Abbey Road Studios, where Sgt Pepper was recorded.
For the event, the album has been remixed from the original recordings by Giles Martin, son of the legendary Beatles producer George Martin and a Grammy Award winning producer in his own right.
Speaking about the event, he said: ""This new Dolby Atmos mix allows us to fall into the record and to totally immerse ourselves in the fantastical world that was so beautifully created at Abbey Road Studios over 50 years ago."
The event is a collaboration between Tate Liverpool, National Museums Liverpool and Apple Corps Ltd.
Helen Legg, Tate Liverpool director, said: "At the time they made Sgt Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, The Beatles were at the epicentre of pop and performance art of 60s London which strongly influenced this tremendous record.
"Listening to this special mix is like hearing something familiar for the first time. It sounds so fresh, you can hear every element which just underscores how wildly inventive it was."
Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band - The Immersive Experience will be presented at National Museums Liverpool's Dr Martin Luther King Jr Building at the Royal Albert Dock from Thursday December 19, 2019 to Thursday January 9, 2020 - except December 24-26 and December 31 to January 1.
Tickets are available now for a variety of timed slots. Tickets are free but advanced booking is essential and restricted to two per person. They can be booked via the National Museums Liverpool’s website .
Eagle-eyed fans will also be able to see artwork from the Godfather of British pop art, Sir Peter Blake, one of the creators of the iconic Sgt Pepper's album cover, which will be displayed on the walls and maritime flags in the Tate Liverpool cafe as well as on Liverpool's Dazzle Ferry.
