World famous data analyst predicts Championship finish - where Leeds United, Bristol City, Middlesbrough, Derby County and Aston Villa come

A leading data analyst has offered his thoughts on how the Championship will finish.

Nate Silver was named one of the world's most 100 influential people after he correctly called the outcomes of both the 2008 and 2012 US elections, yet his background is actually in sports stats.

His website, Five Thirty Eight, has now created a data model to find out how the Championship will finish.

Bristol City's unconvincing Easter has left the model concerned, with the Robins now predicted to finish in a three-way tie for sixth place with Derby County and Middlesbrough.

Yet the Robins' goal difference would not be enough to give them a place in the play-offs.

City are said to have a 33 per cent chance of finishing the season in the play-off places.

'We have to turn around our current form - we know it's possible and the players and fans have to believe'

Elsewhere, Norwich City would win the league - they have a 73 per cent chance of taking the title.

Sheffield United would finish second, and now have a 97 per cent chance of being promoted, along with a 27 per cent chance of winning the title.

Leeds United's recent blip means they would finish third, with a 42 per cent chance of finishing in the top two now.

West Brom, Aston Villa and Derby County are predicted to make the play-offs.

The Rams have a 41 per cent chance of making the top six, in comparison to Middlesbrough's 22 per cent chance.
