World Economic Forum’s Singapore Session Postponed to August

picture

What’s new: The World Economic Forum (WEF) rescheduled its special meeting in Singapore for Aug. 17–20, a three-month delay from the previous plan amid pandemic concerns.

Although the WEF and the government of Singapore remain confident of measures to ensure a safe and effective session and local transmission of Covid-19 remains negligible, the postponement reflects international challenges in containing the pandemic, the WEF said Wednesday in a statement.

The organizer cited global travel restrictions and differing quarantine and air transport regulations for difficulties in planning the in-person convention.

The background: The Special Annual Meeting 2021 in Singapore will be the first global leadership summit to address the challenges of recovering from the pandemic, the WEF said.

The Singapore event is part of this year’s sessions of the WEF, which abandoned its traditional in-person format in Davos, Switzerland, this year to adapt to the pandemic.

This year’s event consists a virtual round that took place in January and the planned face-to-face session in Singapore, which was previously scheduled for late May.
