World Cup today: What to know as the quarter-finals begin with France v Morocco

  • Tournament favourites France face dark horses Morocco in the first World Cup quarter-final, a rematch of their 2022 semi-final encounter.
  • France, spearheaded by Kylian Mbappe , breezed through earlier stages but secured a narrow 1-0 victory against Paraguay in their last outing.
  • Morocco, who comfortably defeated co-hosts Canada , will be looking for revenge after their 2-0 loss to France in the previous World Cup semi-final. Kick off in Foxborough, Massachusetts , is 9pm BST (4pm ET).
  • Meanwhile, England defender Dan Burn believes the team must improve on their Mexico performance to overcome Norway in Saturday’s quarter-final.
  • And football's governing body Fifa has responded to criticism from the Egyptian FA and team members regarding refereeing decisions during their World Cup last-16 match against Argentina.
