- England had four players who were one booking away from missing a potential World Cup semi-final ahead of their quarter-final clash with Norway on Saturday.
- Jude Bellingham, Declan Rice, Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly all managed to avoid yellow cards, meaning they are available to face Argentina on Wednesday following Saturday’s 2-1 win against Norway.
- Argentina also had one player on a booking - Gonzalo Montiel - but he did not get a yellow card in his side’s 3-1 win over Switzerland, and will be able to play against England.
- Fifa rules state that yellow cards are wiped after the quarter-finals, meaning that any player who gets booked in the semi-final will not be at risk of missing the final should their team progress.
- However, if a player is sent off in the semi-final, they will be suspended for the final which is due to take place on Sunday in New Jersey.
