World Cup: 'Sick' Glenn Maxwell didn't want to bat against Netherlands

NEW DELHI: Soon after scoring the fastest hundred in World Cup history on Wednesday, Glenn Maxwell revealed that he felt sick and was reluctant to go out to bat.

"I was sitting in the changing room and I didn't really want to bat, which is a bit different than last game where I was way too eager to get out there. But yeah, I was a little bit more chilled when I got out there. I didn't have high hopes, I think. But yeah, I've been pretty cooked the last couple of days, coincided with the sleepless night last night with the family," Maxwell said after the game.

Interestingly, Maxwell claimed that he worked hard to calm himself down in the middle and take time before he got going. He managed to do all of that in an innings which lasted just 44 balls. "It's a bit weird that I had to calm myself down for the first 20 odd balls. I suppose the timing of the wickets probably changed the way I would have gone about it if it was just me and Davey at the back end. I felt like I was just super selective," he stated.

'Lights show a horrible idea'

Maxwell also came down heavily on the lights show that have been happening at certain venues during the first drinks break in the second innings of matches in the evening. He was seen shutting his eyes with his hands when the two-minute show was happening.

"I had something like that light show happening at Perth stadium during a Big Bash game and I just felt like it gave me shocking headaches. It takes a while for my eyes to readjust and I just think it's the dumbest idea for cricketers when you've got this thing coming at you quickly and your eyes take so long to adjust. It's a horrible, horrible idea. Great for the fans, horrible for the players," a curt Maxwell said.
