World Cup, India vs New Zealand: Hardik Pandya out, Mohammed Shami and Suryakumar Yadav high in pecking order

DHARAMSHALA: Two of the main batting choices to replace allrounder Hardik Pandya - Suryakumar Yadav and Ishan Kishan - suffered 'incidents' at the nets on match eve.

Suryakumar was hit flush on his right wrist by a throwdown, after which he quit the session and was seen icing his wrist.

Ishan Kishan was stung by a bee on the back of his neck while batting. He, too, quit his session.

India will be hoping they are okay for selection in Sunday's game, since India can either beef up the batting or the bowling - not both. The other change that might be necessitated keeping local conditions in mind is replacing Shardul Thakur with Mohammed Shami, who chose not to train alongwith Bumrah.

Coach Rahul Dravid had hinted that 'SKY' was ahead in the pecking order, saying, "Surya came into form against Australia and he is fantastic against spin. Plus, the role may be a middle-over role... and we are clear about the roles people may play. If we are looking for someone higher up the order, then maybe Ishan.

"Bringing Shami in is a great option for this game. We can go with the three fast bowlers or the three spinners. With that kind of combination, we could still play Shardul Thakur and play Ash and Jadeja up."
