World Cup: India-England pitch rated average

MUMBAI: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has given another 'average' rating to a pitch for an India match in the World Cup.

The governing body of the game has given an average rating to the pitch for the India versus England match at the Ekana Stadium in Lucknow on October 29. India, who won the match by 100 runs, had scored 229 for nine in 50 overs, and then bowled out England for 129 in merely 34.5 overs. The rating was given by the match referee Richie Richardson.

This is the third India match in the World Cup in which the ICC has rated the pitch as average. A similar pitch rating was given for India's matches against Pakistan match on October 14 in Ahmedabad and versus Australia at Chennai on October 8. Richardson was the match referee for the India-Australia match too.

In the pitch ratings mentioned on the ICC's website till October 31, the only other pitch which has been rated as 'average' in the World Cup is the one for the Pakistan versus Bangladesh match played at Eden Gardens on October 31. All the other pitches-which have mostly seen high-scoring contests-have been rated as 'good' or 'very good.'
