World Cup: France beats Nigeria after VAR penalty

At the Women’s World Cup, we’re once again talking about the Video Assistant Referee, otherwise known as VAR. This time it happened in France vs. Nigeria. Again a penalty was given, this time for France, which entered the tournament as favorites to win at home.

The game was dead even at 0-0, but the penalty changed everything. France’s Wendi Renard hit the post, but the VAR determined that Nigerian goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie was off of her goal line. Nnadozie earned a yellow card, France got a another chance from the spot (and converted), and went on to win 1-0.
