World Cup fans still priced out of tickets despite recent decrease

  • Resale ticket prices for FIFA World Cup group-stage matches in the US have recently decreased, with the average “get-in” price falling from over $700 in April to approximately $550.
  • While some less anticipated matches are available for around $200, highly sought−after games like Colombia vs. Portugal in Florida command prices exceeding $2,500, and the final match at MetLife Stadium has “get-in” prices over $8,000, with some resellers listing tickets for millions.
  • FIFA President Gianni Infantino addressed the exorbitant resale prices, clarifying that high listings do not necessarily reflect actual sales and defending FIFA's direct pricing as “market rates” to prevent even higher resales.
  • US lawmakers, Representatives Nellie Pou and Frank Pallone, have expressed significant concerns to FIFA regarding 'opaque pricing' and “deceptive practices,” while Donald Trump also commented on the high costs, stating he would not pay them.
  • In New York City, Mayor Zohran Mamdani has secured 1,000 World Cup tickets for residents at a subsidised price of $50 each, available through a lottery, which also includes a free return bus journey to MetLife Stadium, though these are not for the final.
