World Cup, AUS vs NED: Glenn Maxwell, David Warner centuries power Australia to 399/8 vs Netherlands

NEW DELHI: Glenn Maxwell displayed a breathtaking performance, needing just 40 deliveries to record the fastest century in the history of the 50-overs World Cup. This remarkable feat propelled Australia to a commanding total of 399-8 in their match against the Netherlands on Wednesday.

Opening batsman David Warner contributed significantly with 104 runs, marking his second consecutive century of the tournament.

However, it was Maxwell's extraordinary 106 off 44 balls that played a pivotal role in taking Australia close to the 400-run mark, a decision they had made after winning the toss and electing to bat.

Steve Smith (71) and Marnus Labuschagne (62) also capitalized on the inexperienced Dutch bowling attack, but it was Maxwell who truly shone, smashing eight sixes and nine fours during his explosive innings.

With five World Cup titles to their name, Australia currently occupies the fourth position in the points table.

They are now in pursuit of their third consecutive victory, aiming to move one step closer to securing a spot in the semi-finals.
