World Cup 2022 play-off draw in full as Wales to face Austria and Scotland get Ukraine

Wales will face Austria in their World Cup semi-final play-off - with a potential final clash on the cards against Scotland.

The draw took place in Zurich on Friday afternoon and pitted Rob Page's men against the Austrians.

Wales were among the seeded teams in the draw, meaning they will play their semi-final at Cardiff City Stadium.

If Wales are victorious over the Austrians they will face either the Scots or Ukraine in the final for place in the showpiece tournament in Qatar next winter. Crucially, Wales have been given a home final draw if they beat Austria.

Page will be hoping he has captain Gareth Bale fit for the clash, with the Real Madrid man currently on the sidelines having only managed 45 minutes on the occasion of his 100th cap against Belarus earlier this month.

The forward was expected to be out of action for three weeks with his latest calf problem, and Page will be keen to see the attacker get game-time under his belt ahead of the matches next year.

Page said of the draw: "We have given ourselves a great opportunity. It was 1958 when we qualified from a play-off again.

"We have worked ever so hard to finish second in the group. Everything to play for."

The semi-finals will be played on the March 24 and 25 next year. The finals will take place on March 28 and 29.

FIFA plan to make the draw for the World Cup in Qatar on April 1, 2022.

The draw in full:

Semi-final 1 - Scotland v Ukraine (Path A)

Semi-final 2 - Wales v Austria (Path A)

Semi-final 3 - Russia v Poland (Path B)

Semi-final 4 - Sweden v Czech Republic (Path B)

Semi-final 5 - Italy v North Macedonia (Path C)

Semi-final 6 - Portugal v Turkey (Path C)

Home final draw

Path A - Wales or Austria.

Path B - Russia or Poland.

Path C - Portugal or Turkey.
