Forget Fifa’s official Golden Boot or Golden Ball awards – anybody with even a passing knowledge of football knows that the truest metric of success for any international is how many supporters snap up their virtual alter egos on Football Manager.
And according to the players of the wildly popular football management sim, England defender Harry Maguire had the best tournament of any player in Russia.
No player at the World Cup has been signed more within the game this week – a 513 per cent increase on how often the Leicester City centre-back is usually recruited within by budding managers.
Maguire isn’t the only player to have seen his appeal skyrocket in the wake of the tournament: Spurs full-back Kieran Trippier and Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford also make the list of the ten players signed most this week.
But South Korean goalkeeper Jo Hyeon-woo – whop topped the list last week – doesn’t appear this time round.
