We'll also have all the latest from Repino where Gareth Southgate's England are recovering and beginning their preparations for their own last-16 game against Colombia in Moscow on Tuesday night.

And here's a stat to wrap up your afternoon.

France - History makers.
17:10
Just an astonishing afternoon's entertainment and France have won the first last 16 tie, overcoming Argentina in a pulsating game with a 4-3 victory.

Kylian Mbappe was the star man, scoring twice, and providing the run to get France a penalty earlier in the game.

The teenager performed miracles and despite the best efforts of Messi and co. Argentina are OUT OF THE WORLD CUP.

France set up a clash with either Uruguay or Portugal which you can follow here on the Independent later this evening:

16:56
FULL TIME: France 4-3 Argentina

Well I don't know about you but I'm exhausted and I'm just sat here happily typing away.

I can't begin to imagine what fans of either of these sides have had to endure this afternoon.

That was a marvellous start to the last 16.

To Uruguay-Portugal this evening, now.
16:51
IS THE COMEBACK ON?

Messi, into Aguero. 4-3.
16:45
I love stats, me.
16:36
Those goals the Kyllier blow?

Sorry, I'll see myself out.

16:31
Blown away today.

If France do progress through today, do you think they're good enough to win the whole thing?
16:30
France 4-2 Argentina (Kylian Mbappe)

It is more glorious finishing from Mbappe. It really is a joy to watch.

France pass it out from the back and Argentina just can't get near them.

The ball finds its way to Giroud who pushes a pass onto the onrushing Mbappe and you just knew he was going to finish. Absolutely wonderful football.

And now there's breathing space.

Just under 20 minutes to go.

16:25
A picture tells a thousand words.
16:24
Are my eyes deceiving me? This is absolutely extraordinary.

France have just retaken the lead courtesy of that magnificent teenager, Mbappe.

The ball fell to him in the box and he imaginatively set himself the space and hit it strongly with his left foot.

You could arguably blame the goalkeeper, but for me, all the praise goes to Mbappe. A wonderful piece of attacking play.

3-2 France. 25 minutes to go.
16:21
WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW WOW! IT'S 3-2 TO FRANCE! Kylian Mbappe.
16:21
These strikes. Just struggling to get my breath back.
16:18
ABSOLUTELY SENSATIONAL STRIKING! IT'S 2-2. PAVARD.

Yes, the full-back who Mark Lawrenson couldn't stop criticising in their first game against Australia has scored an absolute scorcher.

Reminiscent to Nacho's goal for Spain against Portugal in the first match of Group B.

Simply a must watch. Wow.
16:14
Awww, this is sweet.

They're a happy bunch, aren't they?

For now....
16:10
Away from this game, and looking back to England ahead of this Tuesday's clash with Colombia we have some more update on the team news for you:

16:09
1-2 ARGENTINA! A Lionel Messi strike was deflected on goal by Mercado who's crucial touch took it away from Lloris.

Wow.

Long time to go.
16:04
We're back underway here in Kazan with the game tied.

What do you think the final outcome will be? It's finely poised at the moment.
15:47
HALF TIME: France 1-1 Argentina

Antoine Griezmann and Angel Di Maria with the goals.
15:45
Meanwhile, another HUGE boost for Argentina.

Javier Mascherano is booked which means that if they do find a way past France, he'll miss the next game.

Relief.

15:42
OH. MY. WORD.

Angel Di Maria has just unleashed an unstoppable drive from the edge of the box which has beaten Hugo Lloris and may well take us in all square at the break!

What a strike.
