It's coming home. Well it certainly feels like it anyway.

England are into the quarter-finals of the World Cup after winning a dramatic penalty shootout against Colombia in the last-16. Jordan Pickford saved from Carlos Bacca before Eric Dier struck the winning spot kick to spark jubilant scenes in Moscow and across the country back home.

For some teams the World Cup experience is already over - England fans know all about that kind of disappointment from recent years. But with failure, comes the chance to learn from mistakes, and Nigeria had plenty to be positive about despite crashing out in the group stages.

The new Brighton & Hove Albion signing told BBC Sport they must learn to be 'a bit dirty':

"It's always important when you play internationals to be a bit dirty," the defender told BBC Sport.

"That's what Argentina has, definitely, and you also need to be cold-blooded - that's probably the most important (lesson from this World Cup)."

"We have experienced players, young players, talented players - and there are even more players that are not in the team yet - and we have to keep developing them and investing in their football education.

"We just have to keep working and keep our focus on advancing year after year and then in the next four years we will have a good team - maybe an even better one."

INJURIES
It may have been an historic evening as England won on penalties last night (yes I'm going to keep on saying it because it's never getting old), but has it come at a cost? Colombia gave everything to stay in the World Cup, including several challenges and tactics that weren't quite in the rule book.

Harry Kane, now on six World Cup goals, limped to the end of the second half of extra time, and will need to drag his battered body into the quarter final, alongside Jamie Vardy who didn't take a penalty due to a groin injury sustained in extra time. Several others including Kyle Walker suffered with cramp, and there is little turn around time with the squad before they fly to Samara for their quarter final with Sweden.

When asked about injuries and exhaustion post-match, Southgate had this to say:
