'World class!' Pundits and Leeds United fans agree on Illan Meslier display at Sheffield United

Leeds United are locking horns with Yorkshire rivals Sheffield United today, in their first top-flight meeting in 26 years.

The Whites were looking to secure back-to-back wins in the Premier League following their 4-3 triumph after Fulham last week but their opponents had the better of the opportunities in the first period.

Illan Meslier was forced into a point-blank save to deny John Lundstram and also showed his acrobatic later on, tipping a curling effort over the bar.

Unsurprisingly, fans were lapping up the heroics of the young stopper, who deservedly picked up a wealth of praise for his performance.

BT Sport pundit Robbie Savage agreed with the praise heaped on Meslier by Leeds fans as he provided a glowing half-time verdict.

“Both (saves) are world-class saves. I don’t think you’ll see two better saves all season in the Premier League," Savage told BT Sport.

"It’s a good ball into Lundstram, who we know missed from 12 yards against Aston Villa, but this, coming onto it, I think the goalkeeper has read it. I think Lundstram’s got to go for the other corner. It’s a strong right hand - what a save.

"Me and Michael are arguing which one is better. As a goalkeeper, there, you think he’s gonna go across you, but he smashes it near-post and he’s almost going the wrong way. That would have broken my arm."

Michael Brown added: “I think the first one is slightly better because he steps onto his left foot, reads it well, with a strong right hand. If you’re looking at it from a Sheffield United point-of-view, you’ve got to say Lundstram has got to score.”
