Favourites Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty and the women's duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand stormed into the pre-quarterfinals of the BWF World Championships in Copenhagen on Wednesday.
Satwik-Chirag trounced Kenneth Zhe Hooi Choo and Ming Cheun Lim of Australia 21-16, 21-19. Treesa-Gayatri got past Chang Ching Hui and Yang Ching Tun of Chinese Taipei 21-18, 21-10.
Satwik-Chirag face Leo Rolly Carnando and Daniel Marthin next.
The 10th-seeded Indonesians defeated the English pair of Ben Lane and Sean Vendy 18-21, 21-19, 21-10.
In their only meeting, the Indians had defeated Leo-Daniel at the Japan Open last month.
Treesa-Gayatri trailed 5-2 in the first game before the latter reduced the gap with some smashes. The Indians caught up at 6-6.
Though Chang and Yang worked hard, the Indians were in control, managing a two-point cushion at the break (11-9).
At 16-15, Treesa scored two points and with some good work at the net from Gayatri, they moved to 19-15. Though Treesa committed a couple of unforced errors, Gayatri kept her cool to clinch the first game.
It was one-way traffic in the second game as the Indian girls reeled off four straight points from 10-8 and five more from 16-10 to win the match.
"As it was our first match, we were tense. We are glad to pull it off," Gayatri said after the match, adding that she is more confident now to play the smashes.
"I am slowly trying to be more confident on the court and was able to play the smashes," she added.
Treesa said that variations helped them to earn quick points. The Indians face the world No.1 pair of Chen Qing Chen and Jia Yi Fan next.
The Chinese won in their only meeting at the German Open last year.
