Boxing star Gervonta Davis has been arrested on charges of battery and domestic violence following an alleged assault on the mother of his two children.
The 30-year-old, who holds the WBA lightweight world title, is accused of striking the woman on the back of her head and slapping her in the face during an incident on June 15, causing a cut to her lip, according to an arrest report.
Davis was taken into custody in the early hours of Friday morning in Miami Beach, Florida. The alleged incident took place on Father’s Day in the US.
Local10 reports that Davis went to the woman’s home to pick up their children when a verbal altercation began. He is then alleged to have assaulted her as she tried to remove their daughter from the back seat of his car.
Born in Baltimore, Davis is one of boxing’s most prominent names, having held world titles in three weight classes. He has won 30 of his 31 professional fights — 28 by knockout — and was held to a draw by Lamont Roach Jr in March.
The pair were expected to face off again in a rematch this August, but those plans may now be in jeopardy.
