World Baseball Classic returning to Marlins Park

It appears 2017 is shaping up to a very special year for baseball fans in South Florida.

Not only will Miami play host to baseball's All-Star Game next summer, but Marlins Park will also play host to the fourth edition of the World Baseball Classic _ the so-called 'World Cup' of baseball _ from March 14-19.

This will be the third time Miami has hosted the event.

In 2013, the Dominican Republic earned a spot in the semifinals by beating the United States 3-1 in front of 34,366.

Marlins Park will play host to both Team USA and the Dominican Republic again this coming spring. Canada and Colombia will round out of the four teams coming to Miami.

Jim Leyland, who managed the Marlins to their first World Series championship in 1997, will manage Team USA.

The finals and semifinals scheduled for March 20-22 will be played at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles.
