Worksafe ACT yet to take regulatory action on Geocon scaffolding incident

The ACT's work safety regulator has not yet decided whether or not it will take regulatory action against either development firm Geocon or the crane operators on the company's Belconnen Republic development, a month after scaffolding collapsed onsite.

Worksafe ACT director Greg Jones on Wednesday confirmed the regulator was still investigating the incident, and had not yet imposed any penalties on the companies involved.

While the regulator could yet take some action, a safety notice sent out on Wednesday confirmed the regulator putting the blame down to poor communication by the crane crew regarding the weight of a load placed on scaffolding trestles.

It said the load exceeded the four tonne limit of the trestles, was put in the wrong place and timbers used to spread the load were "inadequate and too short".
