Works starts on new Sandvik Coromant head office

Work has started on a new UK headquarters in the Black Country for Swedish engineering company Sandvik Coromant.

Birmingham-based developer Stoford is leading the project in Halesowen which will house a new high-tech innovation and manufacturing hub for metal cutting after the firm signed a pre-let lease agreement for the self-contained plot on the A456 Manor Way.

The plant will cover 18,015 sq ft, replacing an existing warehouse building with offices which is being demolished, and have 130 parking spaces.

These include 26 electric charging points but the company said there was scope to put this into all 130 spaces in the future.

The development is being constructed on land next to Sandvik Coromant's current UK head office in Halesowen where it has been based since 1958 and which it will vacate once the new base is ready for occupation.

UK sales director David Harbon said: "The facility revamp has been a long time coming.

"While we found our current space was no longer suitable for our needs, this new facility will be fully future-proofed.

"Not only will the cutting-edge, eco-friendly site offer an elevated experience for our UK staff but we're transforming the site into more than just an office space.

"Our ambition is to create a true innovation hub for metal cutting in the UK."

Frontier Development Capital arranged the development funding and Benniman has been appointed as building contractor to deliver the new development.

JLL acted on behalf of Sandvik and Stoford was represented by FSP.
