Martin Walsh

Chief Engineer at the Lavin Family Pavilion, Northwestern Memorial Hospital

As the Local 399 chief engineer for the Lavin Family Pavilion on the Northwestern Memorial medical campus, Martin Walsh is a front-line soldier in the fight against COVID-19. He leads a team of 13 engineers who maintain the mechanical systems that serve critical care patients, allowing medical staff to focus on patient care.

As the entire country began to grapple with the impact of the coronavirus, Walsh led the development and operation of Northwestern’s “drive-up” and “walk-up” COVID-19 testing sites and spent countless hours converting existing operating rooms into additional critical care facilities. Most importantly, he is a selfless leader, full of compassion for the patients affected by this devastating virus.
