It's not difficult to tell pad Thai from Chinese fried noodles, or tom yam and kaeng khieo wan from soups and curries originated in other countries. The same goes for traditional Thai costumes and several other things. But what exactly are the qualities that make being Thai unique?

In the beginning of a quest to find the answer, Museum Siam will host a series of light-hearted discussions under the theme "Decoding Thainess" on Saturday afternoon.
Starting at 1pm, at the museum's Anekprasong (multipurpose) building, the first fun discussion will focus on "Thai Fashion". Joining the panel will be Madiow, aka Apichet Atirattana, a well-known young designer famed for creative incorporation in his works traditional materials and objects such as household utensils. Two experts on Thai materials will add essence, as well as entertainment to this two-hour session, namely Jo Suttirat of Jo's Bag and Weeratham Tragoonngernthai.
The next discussion, to be conducted from 4-6pm, also at the Anekprasong building, will be about "Thai Food". it promises to be no less interesting, judging from the names of the speakers, which include famous chef and food academic Ajarn Yingsak Jonglertjesdawong and food and history columnist Krit Lualamai.
The final session will take place at 7pm, at the museum's Lan Atthachan open grounds. On the topic of "Decoding Thainess", TV personalities such as Pompam Niti Chaichitatorn, John Winyu Wongsurawut and The Shaman, Nattapong Tiendee, will exchange humorous observations and thoughts during the one-hour talk. All sessions will be conducted in Thai. Seats are limited to 80 for each session, except for the final one, which will be held outdoors. Online registration is from 12.30pm at museumsiam.org.
