'Working class lads' 'trying to make it big' bounce back after devastating music studio burglary

Local bands and DJs who lost thousands of pounds' worth of equipment in a recent music studio burglary, are set to play a fundraiser concert.

The amazing response from members of the Liverpool music industry will raise funds to replace the equipment stolen in the raid.

The event organiser said that he wanted to do something to help the "working class lads" who've been left out of pocket by the theft, on Friday, December 13.

Last month, thieves broke into Music Village rehearsal studio in Vauxhall stealing thousands of pounds' worth of equipment.

During the raid, the thieves made off with four guitars, DJ equipment and and iMac.

The CCTV footage shows men wearing puffer jackets with their hoods pulled up, while another was wearing a balaclava. Another man appeared to be armed with a crowbar.

The thieves entered the rehearsal space and storage facility via a fire exit and can be seen running out with guitars.

At the time Merseyside Police confirmed they were investigating a burglary at the unit and issued an appeal for witnesses.

A police spokesperson said: "We are appealing for witnesses after a burglary at an industrial unit in Vauxhall on Friday 13 December.

"At around 5pm two unknown males entered the unit on Paul Street and stole a number of musical instruments.

"It is believed they left the premises in a dark coloured car which drove off in the direction of Vauxhall Road and Leeds Street.

"Items stolen from the unit included a number of electric and acoustic guitars, DJ equipment, an iMac desktop computer and recording equipment."

The fundraiser concert is to be held at Phase One on Seel Street and will feature the up and coming bands and DJs directly affected by the break in: The Entire City band and DJs Elliot Wilkinson and Olly J.

The concert will also feature former La's guitarist Barry Sutton new music collective Beatnik Hurricane and Edgar Jones.

The concert was organised by Liverpool based independent record label Skeleton Key Records.

Neville Skelly, Managing Director of Skelly Key Records, said that he wanted to help these "working class lads who have ambition and drive".

He told the ECHO :  "This robbery was a terrible thing to happen at any time of year but especially in the run up to Christmas.

"Some of these lads who had equipment stolen are at an early stage of their careers with very little money and just trying to make it big. For this to happen is a real kick to the stomach.

"I managed to get in touch with the bands who've been affected and I used some of my contacts to organise a night for some of the bands involved.

"I want the lads affected to know they weren't on their own. The Liverpool indie scene has a certain comradery.

"Any theft is reprehensible but targeting lads who are just trying to get on? It's beyond the pale. They're stealing from lads with ambition.

"So far the response has been great . I've had bands getting in touch keen to get involved and support the fundraiser. It's shown how the entire city can come together and turn what was a negative into a positive."

Anyone who was in the area of Paul Street at 5pm on Friday who saw anyone or anything suspicious is asked to DM @MerPolCC, call 101 or contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 quoting reference 19100729982."
