Workers stood down after CCTV shows slack cleaning of Brisbane trains

Two Brisbane train cleaners have been stood down after being caught on CCTV not doing their duties, Transport Minister Mark Bailey has confirmed.

In vision provided by TransLink, workers employed by a subcontractor to rail company Alstom — who are the contractor managing the TransLink rail network — could be seen slacking off.

"The conduct is obviously disappointing, and the contractor – Alstom – is investigating," Mr Bailey said.

After the company reviewed CCTV, they identified seven instances in late March of staff not performing the cleaning as required, Mr Bailey said.

"To be very clear — the majority of the workers as we understand are doing the right thing and working very well," he said.

"Everybody needs to play their part in ensuring people are safe."

Mr Bailey said he did not know whether the same subcontractor had contracts with any other government-owned facilities such as hospitals and schools.

TransLink boss Matt Longland said the contractor Alstom were still investigating to make sure there were not any other cases.

"We're confident that those cases were isolated — they've been fully investigated — and obviously it's not reflective of all the good work our staff are putting in day and night, across all modes of transport to keep our customers safe."

TransLink were not aware of any other public transport, such as bus services, being affected by inadequate cleaning.
