SANTIAGO (Reuters) - The first workers to review a proposed labour pact at the world's largest copper mine, Chile's Escondida, are in favour of signing the new contract, union spokesman Carlos Allende said on Thursday.
"The contract has been worked out and presented to our grass roots members, who are totally satisfied by it," Allende said.
The deal terms offered by mine operator BHP <BHP.AX>, <BLT.L> still must be put to rank-and-file members of the union for a vote. Escondida management said on Wednesday that it struck a contract deal with most workers, which could signal labour peace after last year's historic 44-day strike at the mine.
Also on Wednesday, the union had said it was putting a planned strike on hold.
