A worker suffered serious injuries at huge new Mercedes-Benz showroom off the M60 in Stockport.

An investigation has been launched by the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) following the incident.

An ambulance and rapid response vehicle rushed to the scene on Brighton Road at around 10am on Thursday, April 18.

Mercedes bosses confirmed an 'incident took place', which left one person 'seriously injured'.

A spokeswoman said: We can confirm that an incident occurred on Thursday, April 18 during the construction phase of our new development.

"Unfortunately, one person has suffered serious injuries. We are saddened by this and wish them a speedy recovery. 

"A full investigation is currently underway by the Health and Safety Executive.”

A spokeswoman for the North West Ambulance Service said: "We were called to the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Brighton Road at 10.10am.

"We sent an ambulance and a rapid response vehicle and took one person to hospital."

A HSE spokesman said: “The HSE is aware of the incident and making initial enquiries.”

The showroom, which is set to be the largest in Europe, is due to open in July this year.
