Worker finishing construction of Globe Life Field tests positive for coronavirus

A subcontractor working on Globe Life Field has tested positive for coronavirus, and the Texas Rangers have notified their employees to make sure no one was in contact with the worker.

The Manhattan Construction Company said in a statement that they learned on Wednesday of the ill employee, who was stationed in an isolated area of the $1.2 billion ballpark. The area was cleared of all personnel and cleaned thoroughly.

Manhattan also enforced a single entry for workers, beginning Thursday, so that each person's temperature could be monitored. The site will cleaned during each work day, and work hours have been limited to 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Workers must wear a color-coded ban that confirms to others they entered through the single point.

Fever is one of the symptoms of coronavirus. Any worker who shows a fever greater than CDC guidelines will be required to leave the site.

"We are taking all necessary steps per the CDC and OSHA to protect from the spread of the virus," Manhattan said in the statement. "The affected work area was cleared of personnel and was sanitized. Safety is first, and we have sanitation and distancing protocols in place at our job sites per the CDC's recommendations to limit COVID-19 virus exposure."

Globe Life Field is substantially complete and able to host Rangers baseball games, but the 2020 MLB season is on hold because of the coronavirus pandemic.

As of last week, general manager Jon Daniels said that no Rangers players had tested positive or were being monitored for coronavirus.

Officials said Saturday that 128 people in Tarrant County have tested positive for coronavirus, but it is unclear if the subcontractor is included in the county's total.
