Worker dies at underground WA gold mine

An investigation is underway after a worker died at an underground gold mine in WA. (AAP)

A contractor has died at Silver Lake Resources' Daisy Complex underground gold mine in Western Australia's Goldfields region.

The worker, employed by mining services group Macmahon Holdings, died on Thursday morning.

"Macmahon CEO Mick Finnegan extends the company's deepest sympathy to the deceased's family, friends and colleagues," the ASX-listed company said in a statement.

"Macmahon will provide support and counselling to the site team and family members."

Silver Lake Resources told the market underground operations at the mine, near Kalgoorlie, had been suspended and an investigation into the death was underway.

The Department of Mines, Industry Regulation and Safety has been notified.

Silver Lake managing director Luke Tonkin expressed sympathy to the worker's friends, family and colleagues.
