Worker charged with sexual activity with patients at Glasgow hospital

A worker at a mental health hospital is accused of engaging in ‘sexual activity’ with three patients.

Jill McLaren, 34, allegedly had repeated sexual intercourse with one man and simulated sex with another.

McLaren is also accused of trying to kiss a third man while she was undressing at the Rowanbank Clinic in Glasgow.

The charges state throughout that the three men are "mentally disordered people" and Mclaren was "employed" in the hospital.

Prosecutors state McLaren repeatedly entered the first man’s room on various occasions between September 2017 and March 2018.

It is claimed McLaren put her legs over his body, kissed him, simulated sexual intercourse and requested that he have sex with her.

The charge states the second man was involved with McLaren during the same time period.

It is alleged McLaren caused the man to enter the room while she was “in a state of undress and attempted to kiss him.”

The final man is claimed to have been engaged in sexual activity with McLaren between June 2018 and October 2019.

Allegations state the man was repeatedly called on the phone and sent text messages as well as cards and gifts.

The charge goes on to state the man was kissed and had oral sex performed on him as well as repeatedly having sexual intercourse.

Another charge claims that while McLaren was “conscious of her guilt”, she falsely stated she was a female named ‘Mel’ in order to speak to the man.

It is alleged McLaren sent cards to the clinic for him with the false name in order to hide her identity from staff and to defeat the ends of justice.

McLaren faces further allegations involving the man including suggesting he stop taking his medication and asking him to assault fellow patients.

She is also accused of punching the man to his head and body and make false allegations against him stating she was being blackmailed.

The final charge claims McLaren knowingly and recklessly obtained access to medical records in Kirkintilloch health centre without consent.

She pled not guilty at Glasgow Sheriff Court to the eight charges and a further hearing was set for next month.

McLaren, of Greenock, had her bail continued meantime by Sheriff Paul Crozier.
