Work visa fraud in Chandigarh: 2 women duped of Rs 10 lakh

CHANDIGARH: UT police registered two separate FIRs in connection with cheating two women of around Rs 10 lakh on the pretext of sending them abroad on work visas to United K and Canada.

In her complaint, Mona Devi, a resident of Sector 32, alleged that Sarwan Singh of Gurdaspur and Kamlesh Rani of Ludhiana assured her that she and her son will be sent to Canada on work visa in 2021. She reported that the accused took a total Rs 6.50 lakh from her for providing visas to them. However, after taking money, the accused started delaying their visa process. On this, the complainant demanded her money back but the accused neither returned money nor provided a visa. She filed a complaint at SSP public window against the accused and after verifying the facts, sector 34 police registered a cheating case and started a probe.

Another woman, Sonu Dua of Ambala, Haryana alleged that Taranjeet Singh Vohra, a resident of Ambala City allegedly took Rs 3.05 lakh from the complainant to provide a work permit and study visa of UK in 2021. However, the alleged person did not provide her visa or returned her money. After verifying the facts, Sector 17 police registered a cheating case and started a probe.
