Work to revamp Sherwood pub after it's sold by Greene King

Work is underway to revamp Sherwood's Robin Hood after it was sold off by of the UK's biggest pub operators Greene King.

It is believed that the pub, in Mansfield Road, has been taken over by local independent operators.

A Greene King spokesperson said: “It is never an easy decision to sell a pub.

"Unfortunately, despite looking at how best the pub could continue to operate, we felt it was no longer financially viable. We would like to thank all the customers who visited over the years.”

According to locals on Sherwood's community Facebook group, it will remain a pub but will be a free house with no brewery ties.

Two years ago the Robin Hood closed suddenly for three weeks due to an "unforeseen issue".

The general manager put it down to issues over the lease and the refurbishment of the pub, which was run by an independent company but belonged to Greene King.

The pub reopened soon afterwards with a £50,000 makeover of fresh paint and wallpaper, a new bar top and a brand new function room.
