Work starts on new Lidl supermarket in Finnieston ahead of winter opening

Work has started on a brand new Lidl supermarket in Finnieston which is set to bring 40 jobs to the area.

Last August, we reported on the supermarket chain having submitted a planning application for 30 Finnieston Street, the former home of Office Outlet, with Glasgow City Council subsequently giving the proposal the green light.

Construction is expected to take approximately three months, with Lidl hopeful work will be completed in time for a winter opening of the new west end store.

The supermarket today confirmed: "Construction of a store fit out for a new Lidl supermarket in Finnieston, in Glasgow has started, following permission by planning officers at Glasgow City Council being granted.

"Lidl is working with construction firm Dickie & Moore to build the store which will create up to 40 new jobs when opened. The store fit out is expected to take approximately three months, with a view to opening the store this winter. The new store with 1,100m² sales area, will also feature facilities including an in-store bakery, 11 self-checkouts, and ample car parking."

Lidl GB’s Regional Head of Property, Gordon Rafferty, commented: "There’s been much anticipation for this new Lidl store and it’s great that we are now in a position to break the ground and start construction.

"We are extremely grateful for all the support that we have received so far and would like to thank everyone for their patience and understanding whilst we enter this next phase of the development."
