Work has started on a new base for a company which makes the core alcohol for more than 75 per cent of Britain’s artisan gins.
Alcohols Limited is building a new head office, production, and distribution centre for its Langley Distillery business next to the A5/Watling Street, north-east of Rugby.
The work is being carried out by Nottingham-based construction company Clegg Food Projects and the site will become Alcohols Limited’s new home when it opens in the next two to three years.
Alcohols Limited is one of the biggest privately owned gin distillery and fine alcohol products businesses in the UK.
It is a subsidiary of the family-owned Palmer Group and currently has its head office in Bishop's Stortford, Hertfordshire, with storage and distribution sites in London and the West Midlands.
The new site will replace its Langley Distillery in Birmingham, although Langley Distillery's Oldbury site will be retained to support innovation, with an interactive visitor centre to promote the history of gin and to highlight the company’s heritage.
The business also makes, stores and distributes fine alcohols chemical solvents and hydrocarbon products for a range of sectors including labelling, food packaging, personal care – such as hand sanitisers, perfumes, colognes and cosmetics – pharmaceuticals and automotive.
Alcohol Limited managing director Adam Wallis said: “Because of the heritage of the Palmer Group and Alcohols, our current operating sites have no capacity for expansion and are severely restricting the growth of the business.
“They are in locations, which were once rural, but are now surrounded by housing developments. The new Rugby site provides scope for environmentally sensitive future development.
"Our products, services, technical and customer support will all remain fully operational during the development of the new site and facilities.
“From our customers' perspective, this process will be a seamless transition.
"The new site will bring significant manufacturing capability and allow the business to grow and prosper.
“The excellent transport connections, by train and road – including the A14, M1, and M6 – are all an added benefit for moving to the region. We are pleased to have Clegg Food Projects supporting us in this transformational project.”
