Work progressing to transform former Homebase store into car showroom

Work to transform Nottingham's former Homebase store into a car showroom is progressing well - with the building looking a lot different.

The store was closed in December 2018 and plans were approved for national motor dealer CarShop to take up the seven-acre site off Queens Drive.

Around 700 vehicles are expected to be on display at the new facility - which will also offer vehicle servicing.

Dealership bosses hope it could create up to 60 new jobs.

The building now has a large glass frontage.

Residents in the area said while it was a shame to see the Homebase store gone, they were pleased with how the new development was looking.

Jason Dilks, 55, of The Meadows, said: "It's looking very different to how it was.

"I am pleased a large retailer is taking its place. It's a shame the Homebase had to shut, I went there a lot."

Karen Cooke, 44, who lives near to Castle Marina, said: "The area is popular for car dealerships, so it makes a lot of sense. There's a lot of business in the area.

"It's on a very busy route into the city so I think it will be popular. It is interested to see it all changed."

Jonathan Dunkley, chief executive of CarShop, previously said: “We’re delighted to have commenced our plans to move into the East Midlands. It’s a very exciting opportunity, and it’s something the whole team has high expectations for.

"The vibrancy and popularity of the growing city and surrounds presents a great opportunity for us to bring our proposition to the market and offer car buyers more choice and convenience when it comes to buying, selling and servicing their car.

“We have an ambitious five-year plan to allow us to better cater for customers’ car-buying needs right across the UK.

"Not only does this include the physical expansion of our store network, it involves significant investment into our digital proposition, ensuring we can deliver for our customers regardless as to whether they shop online, in-store or on the go.”
